“THE BENCHMARK FOR WHICH ALL PRESCHOOLS IN MERTON SHOULD BE MARKED AGAINST”

INSPECTOR, MERTON EARLY YEARS TEAM

Blending the Scandinavian approach to learning through play and outdoor learning with traditional British teaching techniques and Montessori equipment, this unique curriculum and approach to teaching creates an outstanding environment to nurture young children’s natural desire to learn.

With exclusive collaborations with Sweden’s leading nursery furniture and equipment supplier, as well as tried and tested systems to promote efficient running of schools, SMART is ideally placed to offer other providers with the support guidance and advice required to develop their own offering and become a SMART Preschool too.

We believe that the chance to connect with the natural world and first hand experiences of life and growth create endless opportunities for creativity and imagination in children. It improves fitness and physical development and offers countless benefits that create a positive impact on children's lives.

Children feel free and less inhibited when outside and our gardens are seen as our outdoor classroom with all ages benefiting from the access they get on a daily basis. We believe children learn when they are happy and enjoying themselves. The gardens and local parks we visit help to develop a positive attitude to learning through physical activity, offering all children the chance to express themselves through movement, which is an important vehicle for learning.

We also know that children need daily exercise, with NHS guidelines stating that children under 5 needs three hours a day, including bone strengthening, muscle building and cardiovascular.

Our outdoor equipment and classes are designed to ensure our children are exposed to as much physical activity as is required to ensure they are developing both physically as well as mentally.

Team Players

The environment we work in, the children and the observations we make of their progress motivates us to go further in our understanding and become better and better at what we do.

The team comprises of qualified early years professionals according to national standards to ensure we can provide every child with the best educational experience. Staff attends regular professional development courses to ensure we are fully up to date on best practise.

Above all we love what we do!
